Press Release: World Junior's Organizer honoured by Softball Hall of Fame

Whitehorse – George Arcand, Executive Director of Softball Yukon, will be officially named to the Canadian Softball Hall of Fame this Friday evening at Softball Canada’s annual general meeting. Arcand is a familiar face to the Yukon softball community and is most recently know for his role in organizing the 8th ISF World Junior Men’s Fast Pitch Championship coming to Whitehorse this summer.

“I’m honoured to be included in the hall of fame,” George Arcand said. “I’m happy to see such a thriving softball community here in Yukon. It is great to see people getting out and enjoying a sport.”

The Softball Canada Hall of Fame exists to honour those individuals and teams who have served and represented fast pitch and slo-pitch softball. Prolonged and meritorious performances while a member of Softball Canada at the national and international level will be recognized.

Arcand has played a major role as Executive Director of Softball Yukon for the past 15 years. He is also the President of Sport Yukon and the Tournament Director for the 8th ISF Junior Men’s World Fast Pitch Championship.

“I’m pretty focused on the Junior Men’s right now,” Arcand said. “This is going to be a major event for Whitehorse. People will get a chance to see some of the best young fast pitch players competing right here in our parks. You’re not going to want to miss it.”

The 8th ISF Junior Men’s World Fast Pitch Championship will see teams from around the world compete in Whitehorse from June 20 to 29, 2008. Organizers are expecting to see in the area of 300 players and coaches in Whitehorse for this tournament. Tournament passes will be on sale just in time for the Christmas season.
